Organizing cables under your desk improves both efficiency and safety. This guide walks you through a practical, step-by-step process that takes about 30 to 60 minutes total.
Step 1: Gather Your Tools
You will need 10 to 20 Velcro cable ties, about 10 adhesive cable clips, a cable management tray or wire grid, a screwdriver, and masking tape for labeling. Check whether you have enough space under your desk to mount the tray before you begin.
Step 2: Sort and Label
Remove all devices from your desk and unplug every cable. Separate them by type — power, video (HDMI or DisplayPort), USB, and network. Apply a small masking-tape label to each cable so you will know exactly where it connects later.
Step 3: Plan the Routing
Study the shape of your desk and decide on a routing path. The simplest approach is to run cables along the legs so they stay out of sight. Mount the power strip at the center of the desk’s underside to keep cable runs roughly equal on both sides.
Step 4: Install the Tray
Secure the cable tray to the underside of the desk using the included screws or heavy-duty adhesive. Make sure the tray is level and positioned 5–10 cm below the desktop surface.
Step 5: Bundle and Route
Group cables with ties every 30 cm or so. Place the bundled cables into the tray and guide them toward each device along the desk legs. Use clips to hold them in place, leaving a little slack so nothing is under tension.
Step 6: Test and Adjust
Reconnect all devices and verify everything works. Check that no cable is pulling too hard or pinched by the desk mechanism. If something is off, loosen the ties and reposition. Push the desk back into place and 享受 your clean setup.
Following these six steps will give any beginner a tidy, professional-looking under-desk cable arrangement.
