Installing a monitor arm is just the beginning. These habits will keep it working well for years.
Weekly Position Check
Once a week, take a moment to verify that your monitor is still at the correct height and angle. Over time, the arm can drift slightly. A quick adjustment ensures you always maintain good posture. Change the orientation based on your task — portrait for coding, landscape for design work.
Monthly Bolt Tightening
Loose bolts are the most common cause of monitor arm failure. Once a month, check every screw and clamp and tighten anything that has worked loose. Pay special attention to the joints where the arm bends — these experience the most movement.
Quarterly 線材 Inspection
Every three months, inspect the cables running along the arm for signs of wear. Look for frayed insulation, kinks, or loose Velcro ties. Replace any damaged cables immediately. Re-bundle the cables if they have shifted out of place.
Semi-Annual Cleaning
Dust accumulating in the arm joints can make movement stiff. Twice a year, move the arm through its full range while blowing compressed air into the joints. Wipe down the arm with a soft cloth. Reorganize the under-desk cabling while you are at it.
Annual Review
Once a year, step back and evaluate whether your monitor setup still meets your needs. Have you added a second monitor? Has your workflow changed? Consider whether a dual arm upgrade or a different mounting style would serve you better.
A few minutes of maintenance each month will keep your monitor arm safe, smooth, and reliable for the long haul.
